THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

A mother of one of my students now, a 8 year boy, and of my old student, her other 17 year old son who stopped taking lessons three years ago, left this comment on one of the previous blog entries and I thought it would be a good idea to comment on it in a blog post.

It's nice to get feedback like this about old students because it is nice to know that what I did with them in class has made a difference for them at school or in situations where they are in contact with foreigners. I guess I feel a sense a pride in what students can accomplish in English, but I also know that I can take only partial credit because I can only offer English up to the students and what they learn is really up to the students themselves.

I also feel a bit sad too because in the years that have passed since I started teaching the oldest boy (he was then six years old when he started taking classes) I have learned a lot more about how to teach. I really wish I had a time machine that I could use to go back with everything I've learned because I feel I'm doing a better job with the kid students than I was able to do at that time.

I can't help but wonder what kind of level the youngest boy will be at when he turns 17. With the Japanese educational system starting to teach children English in elementary school I can see a marked improvement in my kids abilities, so I think the future is pretty bright for him. I can only hope that in the future his mother will be as pleased with her younger sons ability in English.

Anyway, thanks for comment Junko!
